Question: is there racism against turkish people in scandinavia?
im considering studying in denmark, norway or sweden but some people are saying that people living there are prejudiced against turks. what is it like in reality?

Answer:

Answer by amstel190
Unfortunately, there’s racism all over the world these days.
But this shouldn’t stop you from chosing where to study!

I grew up in Holland (where it’s a similarly “Caucasian” population) and I’ve seen an enormous change in social demographics over the past 10, 15 years.
Now European countries are seeing a much wider variety of cultural influence – people of all faiths, ethnicities, political backgrounds… these new citizens from all over the world are being assimilated pretty regularly. In this global economy, how can we not benefit from the expertise of our neighbors?

Right now, I can confidently say that wherever you decide to study, it’s highly unlikely that you will encounter any kind of discrimination. Especially within the intellectual circles you’ll be exploring.
Northern Europe is as good as it gets in terms of cultural enlightenment – trust me.

Perhaps you can fix a way to speak to a curent Turkish student on the phone over there? Speak to the secretary of the school, tell him or her what’s on your mind and see if there’s someone you can talk to. Try it!

Question: What do you think about Turkish people in America?
I heard the men are very good people and definitely not liars. They will try to help you by their best if they can. Wonder is that true? Please explain.

Answer:

Answer by Sahara
I worked with a Turkish woman on a organic chemistry assignment. She was nice and I liked her but she didn’t seem to like America. She wanted to go back to Turkey. We were taking the class at a community college so I can’t blame her because I hated taking classes there. Too many students were really too silly, lazy, and whiny for me.

I am well aware of the history of the city, however, I want to know if the general Turkish citizen is cognizant of the significance (emotionally and historically) for certain peoples, despite the efforts of some Turkish governments to revise the past.

Answer:

Answer by Mr. Smartypants
I’d like to think that Turkish people know as much about their country’s history as people of other countries. Of course Istanbul, and Turkey in general, have a LOT of history. My country has only about 200 years of history, so I can know it in more detail.

As I understand it, Istanbul means simply ‘the city’ in Turkish. But even I know it was Constantinople and before that Byzantium. It was the center of the Roman Empire for a long time. The city has a long and colorful history, and if I was Turkish I’d be very proud and interested to learn more.

Question: Turkish people, which are your feelings about the Tatar people and Tatarstan?
I feel like a brotherhood with Turks, because we (Turks and Tatars) are both Turkic and sunni muslims peoples (similar languages, roots, ancestors, religion)

but, the problem are the Turks who feel closer with Europeans or Arabs, or the Tatars who considere theirselves “Russians”

I wish Tatarstan get its independence of Russia, and Turkey and Tatarstan create big bonds of friendship
the Europeans, Russians and Arabs are not our friends
Turkic peoples are friends

Answer:

Answer by Keyser
I think you don’t understand the concept of friendship at all.

Turks who have European or Arab friends are a problem? I don’t think so,i think people who want to make brotherhoods based on religion and ethnicity are much more of a problem.

Question: Do Turkish people know that Iranians are not Arabs?
In most of the world, especially the Western world, people usually think Iranians are Arabs. I’m just wondering, does this perception also exist in Turkey, or do people in Turkey mostly know that people in Iran are not Arabs? I once went to Egypt and it was very shocking to me that I actually had to explain to a lot of the people there that Iranians are not Arabs, because I would have thought that this would just be common knowledge for an Egyptian. But what about Turks?

Anyone here from Turkey to know?

Answer:

Answer by Sinner
Half of Turkish people know. Dont worry a lot of people think Turks as Arab as well.
