Question: I don’t mean to come off ignorant, but do Germans actually hate Turks?
I didn’t realize how much animosity there was towards the Turks until I went to search this question online. My dad went to college in Germany, and he was born in Turkey, as was I (we’re American citizens, mind you), and after I asked him if it would be a good idea to do the same thing he did, he told me to go look on the internet before I made my decision. It seems as if there’s a HUGE negative attitude presented by the Germans toward the Turks. I don’t know why! It makes me really upset because I love German culture and would really love spending time there in college and make life-long friends like my father did. I’m even learning German with the help of Rosetta Stone right now! I also don’t understand if it’s a Turkish “thing” or a Muslim “thing.” I would assume the latter, just because you see that kind of discrimination in most places, unfortunately, and it’s certainly not just concentrated in Germany. For the record, I am not Muslim, neither I nor my parents are associated with a religion, but I don’t have anything against any race, religion, or creed! Oh, also, English is my first language, but I do know some Turkish–if that helps paint a better picture.

I just got a little worried that there would be outright discrimination against me if I went to stay there for a while. I’ve never been faced with that in my life, and I really hope I don’t later on. I don’t want this kind of thing to be a mental hindrance for me wanting to visit different places around the world. :(

If anyone who’s German-born or who currently lives in Germany sees this question, I’d love hearing your opinion on this! Or even a Turk living there now or who has once lived there. Or hey, anyone with any kind of knowledge into the topic! Thanks in advance, everyone. :)
Well. Thank you for your profound insight, Anthony. :|

Question: How do Turkish people feel about the violence between Uighur Turks & Han Chinese in China’s Xinjiang province?
I’ve seen some pictures of Uighurs in Turkey protesting the violence, but what do ethnic Turks in Turkey think of the situation?
Are they pro-Uighur?

Answer:

Answer by anlarm
Naturally they are pro-Uygur. The problem here is not how Turkish people feel about it, but how the western world is reacting to the situation.
We all know that China is now USA’s most favored nation in trade. Therefore, Obama administration does not want to criticize China. EU on the other hand, is too busy with its petty internal problems and with inventing new daily obstacles for Turkey’s EU accession. They don’t care much how many Uygurs are murdered by the Chinese party dictatorship. Such is the western hypocrisy. However, if an American, or German, or Frenchman gets hurt in China, they will start protesting.

In a recent study, researchers found that people with Turkish roots living in Germany are often poorly integrated into German society, even though their families may have lived here for generations. Five decades after the first Turkish ‘guests workers’ arrived in Germany,it seems that Turks still tend to keep to themselves, speak German badly and underperform in schools. Nowhere is the problem more acute than in Saarland,a mining region in western Germany.

The US House of Representatives’ Foreign Affairs Committee has passed a resolution recognizing the 1915 Armenian massacre as genocide. The Turkish President says the decision is unacceptable and is not regarded by the Turkish people as of any value

Turks rally against Israeli attack Protesters denounced the raid on Gaza aid ships by Israel [Reuters] Tens of thousands of people have taken to the streets in the Turkish city of Istanbul to denounce Israel over its attack on the convoy of Gaza-bound aid ships that left at least 15 people dead. Around 10000 people marched from the Israeli consulate in Istanbul towards the city’s main square on Monday, shouting slogans and waving banners saying “Killer Israel”. Protests also took place in Ankara, the capital. A Turkish charity has said most of those killed in the raid on six ships in international waters were Turkish nationals. Earlier on Monday protesters attempted to storm the Israeli consulate, scaling over the compound’s walls, but were blocked from going further by police. Israel has advised its citizens to avoid travel to Turkey and instructed those already there to keep a low profile and avoid crowded downtown areas Turkey’s foreign ministry has condemned the Israeli raid, and recalled its ambassador to Israel. It has also called for an emergency United Nations meeting over the incident, an unnamed diplomat has said. “We are preparing to call for a meeting of the UN Security Council on the issue,” the diplomat said without explaining what action Ankara would demand against Israel. Turkey’s deputy prime minister added that the nation would be cancelling three joint military exercises and recalling a youth soccer team from Israel. Anita McNaught, Al Jazeera’s
